Harambee Books & Artworks, an independent bookstore based in Old Town of Alexandria VA, serves the Washington DC metropolitan area with a wide selection of best-selling books, exclusive artworks, and fashionable apparels. We also provide educational resources, reading programs, and community-based events to improve literacy skills and foster parental engagement. Harambee Books & Artworks was conceived to achieve our mission of literacy education as a fundamental human right for all. The company's philosophy is to empower and educate people by providing quality resources and services. Although general bookstores and the largest chain stores may carry mainstream black literature and bestsellers, once a person wants to go deeper into culturally related inventory, including small press and independently published works, Harambee fills that niche. We maintain a 'Core' selection of literature and artwork focusing on African culture from ancient civilization to modern society, and other subject categories such as Brothers and Sisters, Race & Culture, Street Life, and Autobiography.
